I think I'll land the attendance at somewhere between Rags and Summer Bird. There was little competition from Monmouth Park during those years, also.
Anything less than Rags' Belmont would not be that shocking to me but who actually believes the accuracy of the attendance figures released to the media? It's all about how you stack up with the Preakness numbers and the Derby numbers.
And that means coercing drunks and punks to get into the joint.
With the great lineup of stakes scheduled for Belmont Stakes day and all the good horses running (Gio Ponti, Discreetly Mine, D'Funnybone, Proviso, Custum for Carlos, Bribon, Tidal Pool, Crisp, Court Vision etc,) I bet they'll get a crowd around 50,000 or more.
