After a nice rating of 1.6 for The Santa Anita Derby on NBC, The Arkansas Derby cablecast on ESPN drew a 0.3 rating. Not hard to see why ESPN has dropped the Preakness undercard. There are just too many other sports that draw higher ratings. For instance ESPN's Thursday and Friday Masters Coverage drew a 2.8 rating which for a weekday event on cable is terrific. Geno from Equispace has commented on the ESPN Preakness withdrawal in his recent post.

I saw where at the pinnacle of Tiger/Phil (which was riveting TV for CBS) they peaked at 9.8, not bad.
Looking forward to your Derby ratings predictions...could be good contest material!
Thanks for the link.
Beaten by the Ironman World Championship and to add insult to injury it was on TAPE. Yikes...ESPN blows! Racing should be on Vs. I bet it would do just as well and Vs. would actually throw some promotion our way. ESPN is a dead end for horse racing.
